I've seen a number of VII CLs do quite well. I'll leave that to someone that plays a lot more of them in Ops than me.Įdit: Don't count out some of the Tier VII Cruisers, especially Weimar. But some won't like a pure torpedo focus style.ĬVs it's a lot more wild. Kagero has been good to me, too, I even run her in TRB build (dropping smoke for TRB). Her guns have good HE Penetration so she can even DPM Cruisers a bit. Her torps aren't the best, but the range is decent and the reload is good. Z-23 has treated me alright too because of her Hydro and hybrid play. She's outstanding if you want a simpler gun focused VIII DD while still chucking out some good IJN torps here and there. I haven't gone as heavy into DDs for Random Ops but have used a few. But the selection of good, valid Tier VIII Cruisers is more wide open. I don't trust Vladivostok like I do a Bismarck. I don't trust an NC like I do Massachusetts. While there are some great BBs for Tier VIII, a lot of them I don't feel so good about, i.e. IMO I feel better about the wider selection of good Cruisers in Tier VIII. Baltimore, Cleveland, and scores of others are good choices. But there's a good stable of Tier VIII Cruisers. Some like Zieten and Bismarck even have Hydro, giving that extra bit of early warning and spotting DDs in smoke (Hermes) at critical moments.įor Cruisers, I'd say Mainz, Bayard, Admiral Hipper-class, Pyotr Bagration, Atago and her clones. Strong firepower, immense staying power, and an Auto-Damage Death zone via Mega Secondaries. The safest choice is one of the Mega Secondaries BBs like Massachusetts, the Bismarck-class, Zieten, even Brandenburg.
